what is Kunzite?

Kunzite is a gemstone belonging to the family of spodumene minerals, whose chemical formula is LiAlSi2O6. It was first discovered in 1902 in California (USA) and owes its name to George Frederick Kunz, an American mineralogist who played a key role in the identification of several gemstones.

Kunzite is known for its beautiful pink to lilac color, caused by the presence of manganese in the crystal structure. The color can fade over time if exposed to sunlight or heat, so it should be handled with care.

Kunzite has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, making it moderately durable but susceptible to scratching and chipping. It has a vitreous to pearly luster, and can be cut into various shapes and sizes for jewelry, such as rings, earrings, pendants and bracelets.

Kunzite is also attributed with metaphysical properties and is said to promote self-love, emotional healing and stress relief. It is often used in crystal healing and meditation practices.

Overall, kunzite is a popular gemstone due to its beautiful color, unique properties and relatively affordable price compared to other pink gemstones such as pink sapphire or pink diamond.
